Davy Jones of the Monkees as covered by Stew, the man of 1000 voices
Was rehearsing a number of new voices today, including everyone from Terence Trent D'Arby and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones to Bob Weir and The Verve, when I got news of Davy's passing. My voice wasn't quite up to the challenge but I did my best to lay down one of his biggest hits before calling it another (sad) day. I heard an interesting story on tonight's evening news that Davy Jones appeared as the artful Dodger (Oliver) on the Ed Sullivan show the very same night the Beatles made their American debut. Young Mr. Jones watched eagerly from the wings and promised himself that someday he, too, would be in a band on TV. The rest is history. Rest in peace, Davy!
